How To Disable Mobile Data On WiFi On Android Automatically

We all know that Android handles this task internally. However, in reality, it does not completely disable mobile data. The result is that the battery always runs out behind the scenes. Keeping your mobile or Wi-Fi data active unnecessarily reduces your phone’s battery at a good rate.

So, is there any solution to automate this task? Well, it’s not as simple as you might have thought. To automatically disable mobile data, some apps will have to dig into the system. First, you will need an Android phone rooted for this to happen.

How To Disable Mobile Data On WiFi On Android Automatically

When using mobile data instead of a WiFi network, the phone battery runs out faster. This is not something specific to Android. It also occurs on the iPhone and any other portable device that can connect to a mobile network. Most people keep their mobile data until they have to leave and know they will not be connected to a WiFi network. If you keep your mobile data in case your WiFi doesn’t work, the battery runs out much faster. Android has a built-in feature that lets you automatically disable mobile data in WiFi.

This function is a bit hidden. Available only if you have the developer options enabled.

Enable Developer Options

You must first enable the developer options.

  1. Open the Settings app and go to the section of About Phone.
  2. On some phones, you may have a section on the device. In this section, you need to find the build information or build number.
  3. Tap on the build number seven times and enable the options for developers.

Disable mobile data On WiFi

  1. Now that you’ve enabled the developer options, open the Settings app and tap on Developer options.mobile-data-off-on-wifi
  2. Developer options can be nested in another set of configurations. When you are in the Developer Options screen, scroll down to the settings of the Network group and disable the option of mobile data always active.

With this option disabled, the mobile data of the device will be deactivated when connected to a WiFi network. When the device loses connectivity to a WiFi network, either because the router has shut down, the network is not working, or if you have left the range of a WiFi network, the mobile data will be turned on again.

When your phone’s battery is low and you can’t reach a charging point, disabling mobile data will help you last longer. The difference it makes can be quite a lot. If you are trying to extend the amount of use you get from a single charge, you can also enable low battery mode, but doing so will not disable mobile data. It’s something you need to manually deactivate.

iOS has something similar called WiFi Assist, although if you want to disable it, you don’t need to enable any special settings. Remember that it is “similar”, not exact. What the iOS feature does is that it prevents your device from using your cellular data when the WiFi network signal is weak. Does not disable cellular data. You can prevent your cellular data from being used unnecessarily, but it will not help you extend battery life.
